PSHE – Making Choices
As part of their wider learning, Key Stage 2 pupils explore how to make positive and informed choices to support a healthy and active lifestyle. This links closely with their science learning about Animals Including Humans, helping them to understand how lifestyle decisions can impact the body.
Pupils investigated how influences such as advertising, branding and peer opinions can affect the choices we make. They consider how products are designed to appeal to consumers through packaging, pricing and marketing, and reflect on the importance of thinking independently and making informed decisions.
Through practical activities, pupils compare popular drinks, initially making choices based on appearance and preference. They then examine nutritional information in more detail, including the amount of sugar in each drink. This encourages thoughtful discussion and helps pupils to reflect on how their choices might change when they are better informed.
Activities like this support pupils in developing important life skills, including critical thinking, decision-making and understanding how to look after their own health and wellbeing.
