More Science Fun!
As part of our wider enrichment offer, pupils in Key Stage 2 regularly take part in STEM challenges throughout the year. One popular activity challenged the children to design and build a bridge using only paper, with the goal of creating a structure that was both a set length and strong enough to hold increasing weights.
Through this hands-on investigation, pupils explored different designs, materials and construction techniques, testing and refining their ideas before reaching a final outcome. They discovered, for example, that shaping paper into cylinders significantly increased the strength and stability of their structures.
Activities such as this provide valuable opportunities for pupils to work collaboratively, think critically and apply their scientific understanding in practical contexts. They encourage children to develop key skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and resilience—important aspects of learning that underpin the curriculum.
This type of enquiry-based learning reflects our commitment to providing a broad and engaging curriculum, where pupils are encouraged to think like scientists and engineers and develop a genuine curiosity about the world around them.
