Learning Through Investigation

As part of our wider curriculum offer, we provide opportunities for pupils to take part in engaging, hands-on activities such as when we ran a Science Club at the school. One memorable investigation challenged children to explore a classic question: does toast always land butter-side down?

Taking on the role of young scientists, pupils worked collaboratively to design and carry out their own experiments. They considered different variables, including the height from which the toast was dropped, the way it was released and the amount of topping used. Through practical testing and observation, they developed important skills such as prediction, fair testing and evaluating results.

After a series of (very enjoyable!) experiments, pupils discovered that factors such as drop height and the amount of topping can influence how the toast lands. The activity not only sparked curiosity and excitement but also helped children understand how scientific investigations work in real-life contexts.

Experiences like this reflect our commitment to providing a broad and engaging curriculum, where children are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas and develop a lifelong love of learning
